Natural Health Council (NZ)

The Natural Health Council (NZ) Inc. has evolved from the NZ Natural Health Practitioners Accreditation Board (NZNHPAB) which was established in 1987 to set and monitor education standards for naturopathy, homoeopathy, herbal medicine, remedial body therapies and osteopathy. The new Council is a national, professional council which will include members from all natural health modalities with well-documented scopes of practice and high standards of education and monitoring of practitioners.

The Mission Statement of the Council is:

Promoting the highest standard of professional practice in the natural health field to ensure the health and wellbeing of all.

The Council will be organised as other professional councils, supporting and monitoring its members and focussing on the following objectives:

  • To promote and advance an understanding of natural therapies and natural healing in the wider community.
  • To maintain a register of those individual natural health practitioners who are resident in New Zealand and who attain a standard approved by the Council and who are members of a natural health society/registration board.
  • To issue annual registration certificates to all individual members
  • To promote a high standard of education for natural therapists in New Zealand.
  • To advocate natural healing practices and education in the political arena.
  • To cooperate with any other council, body or persons with similar aims and objects.
  • To support research into natural health and healing as approved by the Council.
  • To obtain indemnity insurance for members.
